Things are not going well for the dozen-or-so armed protesters who took over a wildlife reserve in rural Oregon to fight "government tyranny".

The group vowed to stay put until the federal government handed over the land to local ranchers, but didn't plan their siege very well, putting out a call for "snacks or supplies" to help sustain the stand-off in the extremely remote and snowy area.

Animal rights organisation Peta hand-delivered vegan jerky last week, but it seems the self-declared freedom fighters are still hungry - and presumably cold, since they've been sleeping in barracks and their cars.

On Saturday, one of the leaders of the now eight-day-long siege Ammon Bundy sent out an email to friends and supporters asking for fresh supplies, including warm clothes and money, which was seen by Forbes reporter JJ Macnab. The email also asked for:

  • blankets

  • hay

  • slippers

  • plastic silverware (sic)

  • razors

  • three different cigarette brands

  • sheets

  • underwear

  • shredded cheese

  • sliced cheese

  • eggs ("needed badly").

The list in full is below:

After threatening to "kill or be killed" if any attempt was made to remove them, the leader of the now eight-day-long siege, Bundy hinted to reporters that the standoff may come to an end soon.
